Rolly (Sony)

On August 20, 2007, Sony launched an initial teaser advertising campaign for a new product called Rolly [1]. On September 2 the advertisement for the Rolly was the 3rd most popular video on YouTube with 628,006 views as of this edit : Sony Rolly YouTube video. By early impressions it appears to be a personal electronics device combining music functions with robotic dancing. A commercial featuring a man dancing with the Rolly device is also available for viewing on Sony's teaser website. [2]

On September 10, 2007 Sony unveiled “Rolly”, an egg-shaped digital robotic music player which has colour lights that flash as it “dances” and has flapping wings that can twist to its tunes. Movements along with the music downloaded from personal computers and Bluetooth can be set. Rolly, which has gone on sale in Japan on September 29, 2007, has one gigabyte of memory to store tunes. [1]

Common complaints on YouTube's message board are that the Rolly only has 1GB of space; 5-hour battery life; has no screen, and retails for $350 [3].
